The definition of discipline - “Do the things you know you should do, when you should do them, even though you don’t want to”
Nothing great was every achieved without discipline, hard work and persistence!
Your health is probably the greatest embodiment of this mantra!
Here are some things I commit to every week to constantly be heading towards my North Star of Optimal Health!
NOTE: When I say EVERY I mean at least 30 of 31 days per month!
Start EVERY day with 350ml of filtered water with 1/2 teaspoon of pure salt, bicarb & creatine!
4 NIGHTS per week make my big salad lunch for next day - organic lettuce mix, rocket, olives, ginger & beetroot kimchi, red onion, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, walnuts, pistachio, pecans, macadamia, almonds, mixed seeds, hummus, 1/2 avocado & 6 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil!
EVERY night soak my 100% organic porridge breakfast - Finland oats, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, 100% cacao powder, 100% cacao nibs, flaxseed, Ceylon cinnamon, MCT oil, manuka honey, coconut yoghurt & almond milk - ALL ORGANIC!
EVERY night read 30min before sleep - always fiction!
Almost EVERY night ensure 8hrs lights out for minimum 7.5hrs sleep! If need to wake 5.07am I turn out lights at 9.07pm! Really!
Almost EVERY Sunday get up and meet cycle group at 6.30am! Even when its -4 degrees in Boorowa!
EVERY morning do 5min lacrosse ball mobility on hips, back & shoulders before work!
Almost ALWAYS no more than 7 drinks per week! Note: If I have ‘big’ night (4-5 drinks) I have next 5 nights alcohol free!
ALWAYS wait 48 hrs before medicine! When I feel like my body needs antibiotics (last time was 7 yrs ago) I wait 48hrs to let body fight it naturally first! Nurofen & Panadol - same! Most time the body heals!
2-3 DAYS per week have my eggs special lunch! All organic - 2-3 eggs, chopped garlic, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, Dill goats yoghurt, Bragg’s 24 spice mix, Japanese spice mix, extra virgin olive oil served on 2 slices of Bonfire Organic whole meal sourdough with avocado! I love it!
On odd days Floss teeth & on even days use special tooth pick!
EVERY week cold therapy - 2 x ocean swim (year round), 4 x cold shower & occasional Saturday 5min Ice Bath Session!
EVERY day get outdoors for at least 30min minutes! Nearly always hours!
6 days per week take my supplements - 2 grams omega 3 fish oil, magnesium, vitamin D, zinc, Quercetin, Black cumin seed oil, CoQ10, Vitamin C & Good Green Stuff multivitamin powder! (One day off per week)
Almost EVERY Friday golf with the boys at 9.24am! 23 years now! That’s an easy discipline!
EVERY week 8-15hrs of research, reading, podcasts & writing to send emails like these to people like you!
EVERY 3 months download photos and add to my library catalogue of 55000 photos! Every photo in own folder of year, time & place plus each kid has ‘best of’ yearly albums!
NEVER carry my phone on my body or in my pocket! And never text & walk… ever!
NEVER hit the snooze button! Never start your day with poor discipline!
EVERY 2 months go home to Boorowa with the girls to see Dad. Time with family is precious & the simple life of the country is wonderful!
Oh and exercise 10-11 times per week- 3-4 x strength/body weight circuit, 1 x Vo2max cardio, 1 x zone 2 cycle, 1 x sprint intervals, 1 x 2-3hr cycle, 2 x walk/hike, 1 x swim & 1 recovery hour! Plus stretch every day!
And the most powerful BONUS discipline!
Make conscious choices! Moment to moment I commit to TRY to consider all options before choosing one! Every aspect of life! A continual work in progress!
Note: This list of disciplines is 10 years in the making! They are now part of ‘stuff I just do’! Often they are still hard, often I don’t want to do them… but I do anyway! That is why they are disciplines!
